  • It’s hard to lead a workshop that drives clear outcomes if you don’t have a structured way to design it. This week helps you confidently plan a goal-focused workshop that aligns with your audience and purpose.

    Workshop 1: Kickoff Call
Connect with your cohort, set your goals for the course, and get a clear view of what the next six weeks will cover.

    Workshop 2: Designing Workshops
Learn a clear, step-by-step process to break down your workshop into smaller, manageable parts that align activities with your audience and intended outcomes.

  • Choosing the right activities can feel overwhelming when you’re unsure how to keep participants engaged while staying on track. This week helps you select activities that match your goals and energize your group, so your workshops lead to clear, actionable outcomes.

    Workshop 3: Assignment 1 Feedback
Get targeted feedback on your workshop plan so you can refine your approach and confidently apply it to your work.

    Workshop 4: Choosing Workshop Activities
Learn how to evaluate and select activities that align with your goals, audience, and timeframe, giving you tools to guide discussions and keep energy high.

  • Facilitating can feel intimidating when you’re unsure how to handle challenging participants or balance different personalities in the room. This week helps you confidently guide groups by understanding participant needs and managing dynamics in real time.

    Workshop 5: Workshop Participants
Learn to identify different participant types, understand what they need, and apply strategies to engage everyone while keeping your workshop on track.

  • When conversations get messy, opinions clash, or authority is unclear, it’s hard to help groups move forward. This week focuses on facilitating discussions that surface differences, build shared understanding, and lead to clear decisions and next steps.

    Workshop 6: Assignment 2 Feedback
Receive targeted feedback to strengthen your workshop plan so it meets your goals and participant needs.

    Workshop 7: Discussions & Decisions
Learn how to guide messy discussions, surface differences, and help groups reach alignment or decisions.

  • Facilitation requires a different kind of leadership, one that balances guidance with restraint. This week explores how to hold space, manage your own reactions, and make intentional choices in the moment, even when group dynamics are challenging.

    Workshop 8: Facilitator Mindset
Identify what effective facilitation looks like, discover your strengths, and pinpoint where you want to grow so you can guide groups with more ease.

  • It’s one thing to plan a workshop and another to feel confident running it live. This week helps you put your plans into action, practice facilitation in a safe environment, and gain valuable feedback to refine your approach.

    Workshop 9: Demo Day 1
Facilitate your workshop activities in small groups, practicing your facilitation skills while receiving supportive, targeted feedback.

    Workshop 10: Demo Day 2 & Graduation
Continue practicing facilitation with your peers, reflect on your progress, and celebrate your growth as a facilitator.

 Frequently asked questions

  • Our classes are just like an in-person design workshop. We will have group discussions, Miro activities, 1-on-1 feedback, great tunes, interactive media, energizers, and lots of laughs. We think that our live classes are better than most in-person design courses. We use real-time tools like Butter, Miro, Slack, and Notion to make things as interactive as possible. Sign up to our newsletter if you want to get notified about the next LIVE class.

  • There are so many problems and opportunities for improvement at companies that we think it’s a shame to work on hypothetical class prompts in adult education. We encourage you to work on real-world challenges inspired or directly related to your day-to-day design work. We will guide you in selecting projects in the first week of class. You don’t need to worry about that before the course.

  • Since 90% of the work happens in class, we highly recommend attending all classes. You’re an adult, so your attendance and assignments are entirely up to you. Students who miss classes tend to disengage from the community and slowly disappear. We don’t want that to happen, so we ask you to attend the classes. We’ll take care of the rest!

  • First of all, we prioritize interaction over lectures. We used a variety of activities, breakout rooms, games, and tools like Miro, Butter + some green screen magic to keep you as engaged as possible. We don’t use Zoom for class so you will get to try something new. We switch up the pace every 10 minutes so that you never get bored. Zoom calls are exhausting, but our courses are not. All we ask is that you show up, engage in the class, and we promise you’ll have no problems paying attention. Many of our students comment that two hours of class time goes by too fast.

  • We record the workshops, and we will upload those recordings to your learning dashboard. You will retain access to those videos and other reference material even after the course is over.

  • Absolutely! You will get a credit card receipt from Stripe, our payment platform, immediately after payment. If you require a full invoice, fill out this form to receive a complete invoice.

  • We can accommodate group seats for companies. Reach out to hannah@thefountaininstitute.com for payment details.

  • We recommend that you have a fast internet connection and a computer that can handle Butter and Miro simultaneously for all classes. If you have an external monitor, it might help as well. There isn’t any pre-work. Just show up to class, and we’ll handle the rest.

“This course demystified what constitutes creating a good workshop experience. With the confidence, skill set, and tools I gained, I can take a logical and analytical approach to constructing, facilitating, and learning from a workshop.”
