UX research is a powerful UX specialty that is in high demand. Research skills will allow you to stop guessing and start uncovering user needs for your company. It’s much easier to design when you understand the person you’re designing for. UX and product designers, in particular, need research skills to progress beyond senior. Research is quickly becoming a necessity for designing complex products and services.

No, research is a tool that anyone can wield, and sometimes it’s also a role (known as the UX Researcher in design). You don’t have to start calling yourself a “researcher” after you learn to research. Some designers go on to become research specialists, but many designers continue to call themselves designers…even if they have the skills of UX research. Everyone should add research skills to their design toolbox to design products and services people love!
